Echayan married Sosakutty (Sosamma Ipe), second daughter of Mr. & Mrs. A.I.Ipe of
the Areckal family at Nattakom, Kottayam, when he was 18 and Amma was 16 years
old.
They had a wonderful life together for many years.

Amma was born on 23 April 1911 - Medam 10 (Pathamudhayam) in the Malayalam Era
1086 under Avitam Nakshathram.  She was a well-groomed young lady from the town of
Kottayam.  Kothala Village seemed a bit of a drag for her when she first arrived. Very
soon, she adjusted to the village life and became very popular there.

Amma had some formal training in classical music and both Echayan and Amma enjoyed
singing.  She had a harmonium.  She generally sat down cross-legged on the floor and
sang classical music as well as light music. Sometime those "kacheries" were of a
competitive nature where even the older children participated.

When we lived at Kottayam, Amma used to arrange picnic parties at Kothala where
many of our relatives came and stayed with us in the countryside for a weekend or at
vacation time. This made a strong bond between our cousins from both sides of the
family.  Such a relationship  is still very strong among the older first cousins.
